Pull-out marks Millwall FC stadium's 10th anniversary

The South London Press has marked the tenth anniversary of the opening of Millwall Football Club’s New Den stadium with an eight-page pull-out supplement.

The 10 years at The Den insert includes a series of news and feature articles and more than 15 colour photographs.

Edited by the paper’s sports editor, Toby Porter, the keepsake looks back the club’s history in its new home with memories from former players and reports on classic games.

Former players Andy Roberts, Kenny Cunningham and Keith Stevens were among those interviewed as well as the Lions’ life president Reg Burr, who was the club’s chairman at the time of the move.

Toby said: “It was a good product – I enjoyed the chance to do it and I enjoyed researching it. I only had a week to do it in so it would have been nice to have had more time to track other people down.

“The design was very important and we spent a long time tweaking it.”

Although the club has faced some troubled times, notably crowd violence, relegation to Division Two and financial difficulty, the supplement also focuses on the highlights enjoyed by Millwall in the last ten years, including promotion to Division One and some of the more famous victories.

  • The £15.5m creation of the New Den in 1993 was the first construction of a new league ground since the 1920s, after the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 sparked the transition towards all-seater stadia.
