Printing success for Post

The South Wales Evening Post in Swansea is celebrating after winning Britain’s top newspaper printing award – beating The Sun.

More than 30 publishers representing all newspaper sectors entered The Newspaper Printing Award category in the Printing World Awards 2002.

These were whittled down to four finalists of The Post, News International for The Sun, Shetland Litho – which prints The Shetland Times every week – and London printer Stroma.

The Post was announced the overall winner at the awards ceremony in London.

The Post is published by South West Wales Publications and is part of the Northcliffe Newspaper Group.

It is run on a single-width Goss Urbanite press and the judges were highly impressed with the standards the paper has set itself.

Print manager Mark Cockings said: “We are over the moon, it is a tremendous achievement by everyone involved.”

Managing director Chris Rees said: “In an age when many local newspapers are printed far away from the area which they serve, this award is a credit to the skill of a local and loyal workforce.

“It demonstrates our continued commitment to providing readers and advertisers with the best possible quality.”
