Press watchdog chief among speakers at editors' Scottish conference

Press Complaints Commission chairman Sir Christopher Meyer has been announced as being among the speakers at the annual conference for the Society of Editors (Scotland).

Glasgow Caledonian University will welcome some of the country’s top broadcasters and journalists to the event in September at its Continuing Professional Development Centre, supported by the Caledonian Business School.

Other speakers include Vicki Nash, director of OFCOM in Scotland and Elizabeth Cutting, media and communications advisor to the judiciary in Scotland.

Society of Editors (Scotland) chairman Julian Calvert – who is also a lecturer in journalism – said: “I’m delighted that the university will be hosting this conference; it reinforces the message that the training and education of the journalists of tomorrow is more important than ever.

“The rapid pace of change, ranging from citizen journalism to podcasting, means that print and broadcast news is converging; the conference will reflect the challenges and great opportunities that this brings.”

Tickets for the event, which is followed by a drinks reception in Glasgow’s City Chambers and dinner in the Corinthian, are available by contacting Irene Brown on 0141 331 8852 or [email protected].
