The Newspaper Press Fund charity for media workers and their families has received a financial boost from Kent newspaper chief Edwin Boorman.
Mr Boorman, chairman of Kent Messenger Group Newspapers and NewspaperSociety vice president, bought the top item – a high performance car – at acharity auction at the annual Press Ball in London.
He was among 800 guests from the national and regional press.
The event raised more than £50,000 for the Newspaper Press Fund,which helps retired and young journalists and their dependants who facefinancial hardship or other misfortune.
Mr Boorman, who stressed it was a personal contribution, said: “I wasdelighted to assist such a worthwhile cause.
“It was a fantastic evening and many people were extremely generous, including Lotus who donated the £33,000 car.”
