Press club plans party in aid of city charity

The Birmingham Press Club is organising a ‘Night of Decadence’ to raise money for a city-based cancer charity.

The evening at the Mailbox shopping arcade will include a disco, a fashion show by Harvey Nichols, and charity draw which will see a host of prizes given away, including two flight tickets to New York and an item of clothing donated by Cher.

John Lamb, chairman of the Press Club, said: “We hope to attract hundreds of guests for a night to remember and to support a worthy cause.

“The main focus will be on the lower level of The Mailbox alongside the canal.

“Restaurants and bars along the canalside, including Penny Blacks and Don Salvo, will be taking part, providing food and drink.

“There will also be a fashion show by Harvey Nichols plus many other attractions to be announced shortly.”

All the proceeds will go to Birmingham charity Get A-Head, which raises money to help diseases of the head and neck via research, education or the purchase of vital equipment.

The event will be held on Thursday, June 21, and organisers say it will be a chance for the media glitterati to let their hair down, forget the diet, mortgage and job worries and gorge on fine foods while partying until the small hours.

The disco will be hosted by Heart fm breakfast show presenter Ed James, a Press Club board member.
