Press clipping admitted as evidence

An article from a regional newspaper was admitted as evidence in a murder trial at Bristol Crown Court.

The court was told how the Gloucester Citizen piece led to a homeless man being charged with murder – a charge he denies in court.

The front page of an edition of the Citizen published 10 days after a 33-year-old man was found stabbed to death showed a police photograph of the defendant and an artist’s impression of another suspect.

It was admitted as Exhibit Six at Bristol Crown Court.

A regular Citizen reader told the court how she immediately recognised the picture as a man who had interrupted a Sunday service at her local church the day before the murder was discovered.

The jury is being asked to decide if the man in the church is the same as the one in the dock.
