PR move for Daventry editor

Daventry Express editor David Granger is set to embark on a new challenge in PR.

The 32-year-old has revealed plans to leave the weekly title in October, when he will join Impact PR in Bidford upon Avon, Warwickshire.

David said: “The new job will provide me with a new challenge. I’ve spent 10 years in journalism – I wanted to be an editor by the time I was 30 and did that, and this will stretch me again.”

David has already enjoyed a varied journalism career, starting out as a trainee on the Harborough Mail in 1993.

He also worked for Emap Magazine and PlayStation Plus, before returning to the Harborough Mail as deputy editor and then becoming the new media editor for Central Counties Newspapers, looking after nine newspaper websites.

In June 2001, David was appointed editor of the Daventry Express, and during the past two years its team has grown and the paper has been given a new look.

It was also named Heart of England Newspaper of the Year last year.

David said: “Daventry has a brilliant team which has been built up over the past 12 to 18 months.

“The paper had grown but the number of staff hadn’t. We’ve taken on another reporter which has meant they are able to get out of the office more.

“We’ve changed the flow of the paper and how we approach news, and have cut down on council stories and concentrated more on people-related stories.”

In his role as editor David has also been responsible for the paper’s website, and in January he launched a new free sheet, the Daventry Review.

Impact PR is a national public relations consultancy for various car firms including Mercedes Benz, and David’s new role will be as the senior account manager for Chrysler Jeep.

David said: “I’m looking forward to writing more again. It wasn’t a particular aim of mine to get into PR, but this looked like a good opportunity.”
