Posters printed in rape case

An horrific sex attack has led the police to ask the Peterborough Evening Telegraph to print a series of posters appealing for witnesses.

A 16-year-old girl was hit over the head, dragged into bushes and raped as she walked home from the shops.

As she lies in a semi-coma, police have been trying to catch her attacker – with the help of the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

The paper has already featured the case heavily, publishing photographs of the area where the attack took place.

The police asked the Telegraph to help produce posters urging witnesses to come forward.

And on the first day the posters were put up around the town, an arrest was made.

Assistant editor Brad Barnes said he didn’t know if the posters led directly to the arrest but said that the inspector leading the case had been grateful for the help.

He said: “This is one of the biggest cases this area has ever seen. It’s important to keep its profile high in case it jogs people’s memories.”

Now the Telegraph is planning to continue its poster campaign in the hope of encouraging witnesses to come forward.
