Post editor joins watchdog

Sunday Post editor David Pollington has been appointed as a new member of the Press Complaints Commission.

Announcing the appointment, PCC chairman Lord Wakeham said: “That the Commission works so well is as a result of the interaction between lay members (who are in the majority) and senior editors from across the industry and across the country.

“David will play an important role in continuing to help keep self regulation effective – as well as bringing to our work a vitally important perspective from Scotland, which has such a dynamic newspaper industry.”

David said: “I am looking forward to taking up this challenging role on the PCC. I am a firm believer in self regulation by the UK newspaper industry: it is the right road to follow, both for the sake of press freedom and, more importantly, for the general public.”

He has spent most of his journalistic career on the Scottish newspaper – and was previously deputy editor for four years before becoming editor at the start of 2001.
