Westcountry titles put picture archives online

Readers of the Western Morning News, The Herald in Plymouth, Exeter Express & Echo and Torquay Herald Express can now search for and order photographs online.

The papers have adopted the Digital Asset Solutions’ photo sales marketing software ‘Photo Order Press’, and photographic archives from each of the papers are being put online.

The service allows readers to select a newspaper, and then search from news, sport, special event or archive pictures using a keyword or image ID.

More than 250 newspapers are now using the Photo Order software along with around 150 freelance photographers, and since its introduction, it has managed £2.51m in photo sales.

The software is also to be rolled out across Trinity Mirror, overseen by Philip Chisholm who has been appointed European sales manager of DAS.

He had been previously been UK bureau picture editor for NewsPrints Ltd, who use the Photo Order system to provide newspaper publishers with a ‘one-stop-shop’ Photo Sales Marketing Services, and set up Newsquest with the NewsPrints service.

Prior to that he was part of the Photo Order project development team at DAS.

Philip said: “The success of the DAS software is a tribute to the skill and dedication of our development team who have delivered a successful Internet based multi-platform design to the Photographic & Newspaper Industry, who were looking for a strong and robust marketing solution.”
