Press photographers' work is going places

Photographers at the Lynn News are used to seeing their pictures in the paper – but they can now also see them on the side of a train.

Photographs from the weekly paper’s archives have been used to decorate the carriages of a West Anglia Great Northern train, and can be seen by passengers travelling between King’s Lynn and London.

  • Borough Mayor of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Trevor Manley, Wagn MD Andrew Chilvers and West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham admire the train
  • The paper got involved after staff photographer Paul Tibbs was approached by a London design company looking for scenes from ‘Nelson’s County’.

Paul trawled through hundreds of photographs of local landmarks, and the chosen images were blown up to create the picture train.

These include the Custom House at Kings Lynn, Sandringham House and the Eco-Tech wind turbine at Swaffham.

A life-size picture of a portrait of Norfolk-born Lord Horatio Nelson was also used.

Paul said: “The pictures looked incredible especially as they were taken on 4mpix D2H’s on high jpegs.

“It was a long process but once the train was on the platform it was worthwhile.

“It is a thrill to see your work used so big on the side of a train.”
