Picture editor chooses 40 shots for exhibition

A new photographic exhibition organised by the East Anglian Daily Times to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, will recapture the excitement of her royal visits over the years.

The display will focus on her Suffolk engagements.

The exhibition of 40 pictures was put together by picture editor Paul Nixon and librarian Tessa Oxlade.

Paul said: “What I have tried to do is choose pictures that not only capture the spirit of the occasion but also show something of the area.

“We don’t just want head and shoulders shots of The Queen, we want to see the Queen in Suffolk, meeting Suffolk people, so that has been the guiding principal in choosing photographs for the exhibition.”

Editor Terry Hunt said: “It’s especially appropriate that our contribution should be a photographic record of Her Majesty’s visits to the region, because the EADT has recorded all major local news events for more than 100 years.”

The exhibition, a joint venture between the EADT, borough council and East England Arts, runs at Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich, until June 23.
