Picture desk changes at two titles

Tony Adams is the new picture editor at the Express and Star, Wolverhampton.

He has moved from the sister Shropshire Star, where he was chief photographer, and succeeds Geoff Wright, who is heading a new syndication service for the Wolverhampton title.

Bob Greaves succeeds Mr Adams at the Star.

Mr Adams (49) joined the Star as a photographer more than 20 years ago and progressed through the ranks. He began his career with the Shrewsbury Chronicle.

He is married to Jocelyne and they have two daughters, Claudia and Cressida.

Mr Wright (65) has retired as picture editor but remains at the Express and Star – where he has worked for more than 30 years – to head a new words and pictures syndication service. He aims to tap a huge market among magazine, TV, radio and national newspapers for material from Britain’s biggest-selling regional daily, with a circulation of over 188,000.

Mr Wright says he will be able to syndicate material as soon as pages have gone to the press at the Express and Star.

“Our editor Warren Wilson’s view is that even if we had a case where TV had a snippet of our story earlier than perhaps some of our readers, people might see it on the TV and that would whet their appetitie to look at the full story.

“The important thing is that we will still look after our regional friends. If any of the regionals come to to us for stories and pictures, we will supply them without any charge on the basis that the next day, we might be ringing them up for the same service.”

He can be contacted on 01902 319889.

Bob Greaves (30) is the new chief photographer at the Shropshire Star, where he was previously deputy to Tony Adams. He joined the paper about a year ago after 11 years at the Reading Chronicle, where he began as a trainee.

Richard Brock has been appointed his deputy. He was previously district chief photographer.

Pete Shah has joined the paper as assistant chief photographer.

In other changes at the Star, former sports editor Keith Harrison has been appointed chief sub-editor and Alun Owen (39) has become sports editor.
