Photographer's magical animal snaps create new book

Western Morning News photographer Richard Austin has put together a second book of his best animal photographs.

The move follows the success of his first book, Westcountry Animal Magic.

Entitled More Westcountry Animal Magic, the book features more than 200 new photographs of wildlife.

He is a regular contributor to the newspaper’s popular Animal Magic page, and says he loves capturing the antics of animals on film.

He said: “I love photographing animals. The vast majority of pictures in the book have been taken in the last 18 months.

“I’ve worked hard to put this book together and I hope that everyone enjoys it. Most pictures are cute and cuddly – everyone loves cute animals.

“It’s like a universal language. It’s important to capture that really cute moment. You have to be very quick, but when you do capture it, it makes an amazing photograph.”

During his 20-year association with the WMN, Richard has worked on a wide range of news stories and his pictures also grace the pages of the nationals.

He said: “I have photographed all kinds of subjects. I worked on the Dorset canoe tragedy of 1993, and am a regular photographer for the sports pages, particularly Plymouth Argyle.”

  • More Westcountry Animal Magic is available to buy now, priced £12.95.
