High sales for flooding record

A photographic record of the floods in the Shrewsbury area before Christmas has proved so popular it has almost sold out.

The Great Millennium Floods, published by the Shropshire Star, is an 84-page account of what happened and how people coped.

Extra copies are being made available through the newspaper’s website for £3.99.

It said: “The floods at the end of 2000 were the worst the county had seen for more than half a century and many people have vivid memories of how the waters affected them.

“Our photographers and reporters were out at all hours and in all conditions following the stories and providing a permanent record of those days.”

The Star’s coverage of the autumn events have come in for praise from Government minister Elliot Morley, who noted the professional way in which it covered the floods.

Mr Morley also gave the newspaper credit for leading the public debate in the search for a solution.

A massive public consultation was been launched by the Shropshire Star to find a solution to the region’s flooding problem.

More than 30,000 homes in the Shrewsbury area received a survey form to give their views.
