Competition offers chance to work on national newspaper

A six-month photography contract with The Times is on offer for budding press snappers in this year’s Times/Tabasco Young Photographer of the Year competition.

Entries are being sought from people aged between 19 and 25 who have never worked for a national newspaper, with the winner taking up a placement with The Times in August.

Photographers are invited to submit three different pictures with contrasting styles in the categories of Action; Portrait; and Food and Entertainment.

The competition, which is now in its fifth year, will enable the winner to learn from professional snappers as well as work on their own assignments for The Times.

Last year’s winner was Clara Molden, a graduate of Norton College in Sheffield.

She said: “I have learnt so much technically about my photography and how the industry works… the best part of being a ‘Tabasco kid’ is the amount of interest and support you get.”

The closing date for the competition is midnight, Friday, March 3.

Details on how to enter can be found here.
