Photographer hopes to raise money for unit

A former South Wales Evening Post photographer, who is fighting a terminal illness, has launched an appeal in aid of the chemotherapy unit at a Swansea Hospital.

Len Pitson, (68), former chief photographer at the Post, is hoping to raise money for the Singleton Hospital to say thank you to its staff who have helped him in his three-and-a-half year battle against stomach cancer.

During his 45 years at the Post, Len came into contact with a host of top sportsmen, and he is hoping some of them may come forward to donate prizes for an auction he hopes to stage on August 20.

He said: “I would love it if some of them could put an item up for auction. I would be more than grateful.

“I want to pay back the chemotherapy unit at Singleton Hospital for all the staff there have done for me over the past three-and-a-half years.

“I reckon that department was handpicked. They have been absolutely tremendous – Anwen Morgan who is in charge – and her team.

“I want to recognise all their contributions. I just want to raise some money for equipment.”
