Paper's seaside treat

A group of Wakefield school children enjoyed a day out to the Yorkshire coast as part of the Wakefield Express 150th anniversary celebrations.

The trip to Scarborough was for eight youngsters aged 12 to 16 with severe learning difficulties and was jointly organised by the newspaper and Wakefield Council’s educational psychology service.

The pupils from Oaktree School, Ackworth, enjoyed the attractions along the seafront and at Kinderland in North Bay despite poor weather.

Rob Lukaszewicz, a teacher at Oaktree, and Ed Asquith, editor of the Wakefield Express, headed the outing.

Ed said: “We’re very pleased the children enjoyed the day so much and it was great to be able to organise it as a part of the newspaper’s 150th anniversary.

“The youngsters and their helpers were good fun to be with and it was a very humbling experience.”
