Paper's charity spectacular to host top Starr

A charity This Is Bristol Spectacular is to host music acts from a variety of backgrounds as the Evening Post raises cash for local children.

The event is a collaboration between The Event Management Company, energy company SWEB, Bristol City Council, the University of Bristol and the Post itself.

The show will celebrates the launch of the Post’s new minipaper This Is Bristol weekly listings pages, the popular stand alone listings magazine of the same name, and the This Is Bristol website.

The line-up includes legendary Motown singer Edwin Starr and his backing band The Team and a host of rising stars, including award-winning vocalists Matt Baker and Deanne Nicholls, winners of the annual prestigious Evening Post/Fry Club Search for a Star contest. They will be joined by stunning recording artiste Caroline Agastini and the University of Bristol Jazz Stars.

Deputy editor Stan Szecowka, who is also a member of the appeal’s fund raising committee said: “It all came about when we met the university’s new vice-chancellor who wanted to build new ties with the community and open up the establishment to the city’s ordinary folk… hence the free venue – the home of its music department.

“The MD of TEMC won a Post young business award and he’s on board to organise the show for us for free.

“Every penny profit from ticket sales, which could be £9,000, will go to the Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Christmas Appeal which helps underprivileged children, and because of that, the city council is providing free box office facilities – so it’s a win-win community partnership.

Stan added: “We hope our family of readers will enjoy a spectacular event, in superb surroundings and at the same time raise thousands of pounds for a worthwhile appeal.”
