Old Gazette base to be KFC

The former home of the Blackpool Gazette is being torn down to make way for fast food restaurants.

The imposing office complex on Preston New Road housed the paper between 1987 and 1998 and was a familiar sight to millions of visitors driving into the resort.

When the news team moved into the building, it marked the change from typewriters to a modern computer system.

In 1998, the Gazette relocated to an out-of-town business park and the old offices have been disused ever since.

Now the site has been bought by developers and the buildings are being demolished to be replaced by a Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut.

Developer Giles Berry said: “I am very pleased the scheme is going ahead – I am sure it will be a benefit to the community.”
