North West Evening Mail's Brauner to edit new business weekly

North West Evening Mail editor Steve Brauner is to leave the paper to edit new weekly business newspaper Crain’s Manchester Business.

He will join Crain’s on October 8, having been editor of the Barrow-in-Furness daily since 2002.

The move will be a return to his roots for 46-year-old Steve, who grew up in Manchester and previously edited North West Business Insider magazine from 1997 to 1999.

He has also been business editor and assistant editor of the Liverpool Daily Post.

Steve said: “The arrival of Crain city publications is the most exciting thing to happen to the UK regional media in my lifetime and I am thrilled to be part of it.

“Even better, it is happening in my home city of Manchester. Our goal is journalism which will enhance an already vibrant community and make Greater Manchester an even better place to do business.”

Crain’s Manchester Business will be a weekly business tabloid with a distribution of 15,000.

It will be aimed at Greater Manchester executives and business owners and the first issue is due to appear in December.

Publisher Arthur Porter said: “We’re delighted to have Stephen join our team here.

“His knowledge of Greater Manchester and his business journalism background make him the ideal choice to lead our journalists.”

Crain’s Manchester Business is being launched by Crain Communications, which publishes four local city business journals in America, in Chicago, New York, Detroit and Cleveland.

The new publication will be based on the same model, and will focus on local breaking business news as well as research and analysis that is aimed at helping people grow their business. Do you have a story about the regional press?
