Nicole moves up at the Argus

Nicole Garnon has been appointed assistant editor of the South Wales Argus.

She has been news editor of the Newport-based evening paper for the past three years and has spent more than 13 years with the Argus.

Nicole, 37, started her career at the Gateshead-based free weekly the South Tyneside Post.

After more than a year as a reporter/sub-editor Nicole moved to the weekly paid-for Gateshead Post where she worked as a reporter and womens’ page editor for about 18 months.

She then made the move to South Wales, starting as a district reporter for the South Wales Argus in 1987. After more than a year in that post Nicole left the Argus to work for the Western Mail.

She returned to the Argus fold just six months later as health reporter.

Nicole has since held the posts of chief reporter, deputy news editor, and news editor.

Argus editor Gerry Keighley said: “I am delighted to be able to promote from within for this post.

“Nicole has proved herself extremely able in a number of roles at the Argus.

“Her main role will be to oversee the content of the paper and I am sure she will make a significant contribution to continuing our run of newspaper sales increases.”

She is the mother of two young boys, Josef (five), and two-year-old Samuel, and lives with her long-term partner, journalist Andy Rutherford.
