Newsroom jobs safe

Journalists’ jobs are safe in the latest round of job reviews at Trinity Mirror.

A group spokesman confirmed than the roles of 18 divisional staff are currently under review. All are based at Trinity Mirror’s regional newspaper division headquarters in Liverpool and London.

Consultations over the roles of 18 central staff who work for the group’s regional operations began last week.

But staff who work for individual newspaper titles are not at risk under this current consultation.

Results of the consultation, which is part of a strategic review by new chief executive Sly Bailey, should be known early next month.

  • Earlier this year there were a total of 20 redundancies at The Birmingham News and Sunday Mercury, 19 of which were achieved through selective voluntary redundancy or redeployment, and eight new job roles were created.
