Newsquest's Guardian series appoints new publisher

The Guardian series in the North West, which includes the Runcorn & Widnes World, has a new publisher, Eleanor Underhill.

Eleanor took up her new post after Chris Hughes was promoted to regional managing director for Newsquest (North West).

She has worked in local newspapers for 24 years. She started at the Yorkshire Post on telephone sales and progressed to classified sales manager.

Eleanor joined the Warrington Guardian in August 1998 as advertisement manager, and then group advertisement manager.

She said: “I am very proud to be involved with such great titles. We’ve got a really committed and talented team here and I am looking forward to working with them.”

Chris joined Pilkington plc as a graduate trainee before getting a job with Trinity’s North Wales Independent Press as a management accountant.

After three years he was promoted to finance director. He joined Newsquest (Cheshire/Merseyside) in 1997 as regional finance director, a position he held until 2001 when he was promoted to managing director for Guardian series.
