Newspaper's online mapping hopes to solve city's congestion troubles

The Manchester Evening News is to use interactive mapping technology to show the results of a major survey into road congestion.

It wants readers to get in touch about long-running roadworks, problem traffic lights and constant bottlenecks, as well as “inappropriate” road safety schemes and bus lanes.

It hopes the survey will be able to help drivers beat gridlock on Greater Manchester roads.

All the information gathered will be used for an interactive map on the MEN website to show the problem areas.

A dossier will be sent to the relevant authorities in the hope that action can be taken.

The newspaper has been following congestion problems for the past year, most recently as businesses in the city centre revealed how they lost money over the last month because of traffic jams and parking chaos.
