The company which owns the News & Star, Carlisle, has appointed a managing director for its newspaper division.

Chris Bisco will take up the job with CN Group in the New Year.

He is currently a senior director of newspaper publisher Johnston Press (South) in Portsmouth.

He will be based at the head office in Dalston Road, Carlisle and be responsible for the News & Star, The Cumberland News, the Gazette, Business Gazette, Cumbria Life and titles in West Cumbria, Furness, Hexham and Langholm.

Mr Bisco joined Portsmouth in 1983 but had a year as commercial director of Robert Maxwell’s British Newspaper Printing Corporation in 1986/87.
