  • The blanket-knitting record is set to be broken for the Idle Tide feast celebrated near Bradford – and the Telegraph and Argus is set to feature heavily in the celebrations.
    The blanket being created is emblazoned with the letters T&A as a thank you to the paper for its support of the record bid.
    The organisers are also seeking sponsorship for their marathon knit, which should be finished ready for the September festival.

  • Issa Kamara has spoken of his excitement at hearing the news he will be getting treatment for severe burns at a Norfolk hospital.
    Thanks to the Eastern Daily Press, he will travel to England from Africa for surgery.
    He said a loud “Thank you” to staff looking after him in Sierra Leone, reported in the paper the day after John Prescott cleared red tape for the trip.

  • A Western Mail telephone poll has revealed overwhelming support for a public inquiry into the foot and mouth crisis.
    Ninety-nine per cent of those who took part in the poll thought there should be an inquiry – and farmers’ leaders and politicians have added their weight to the opinion.

  • A charity that provides furniture to thousands of needy people in York has found a new home thanks to the Evening Press.
    The York Community Furniture Store helps people on low incomes to furnish their homes and faced losing its base to a redevelopment until a story in the Press resulted in them being told about new premises available for rent in the city centre.

    Radio presenter Lisa Matthews has backed the South Wales Evening Post Cancer Fund after £1,000 was raised in memory of her mother, who died from the disease.
    Lisa presents the drivetime show on BBC Radio Wales and was touched by the amount that was raised in lieu of flowers for the funeral.
