PA Sport is to launch an enhanced version of the Actim Index – the official player ratings index for the Barclays Premiership and Coca-Cola Championship – for the new football season.
The Actim Index ranks players on a weekly basis according to their performance, both by position and in an overall chart, throughout the season.


Magistrates gave a motorist an absolute discharge for a parking offence after the Tiverton Gazette reported a shortage of spaces in the town. The story said that leniency would be given by the authorities while parking spaces were lost during building work in the area.


The AOP Online Publishing Awards have experienced a record number of entries for this year’s competition.
The final tally stood at 232 award entries with more than 70 digital publishing companies being represented. Each entry will be assessed by a panel of judges with the shortlisted entries for each of the 14 categories being released on September 5.


Author Jilly Cooper has spoken out in favour of a Western Daily Press campaign to get the Government to support local post offices, which could be under threat.
She said: “They are a national institution and should be preserved. I can only urge people to get behind the campaign and make the Government sit up and listen.”
