The former home of the Sunderland Echo, the old Thompson’s Print building, has been demolished to make way for a prestige apartment development.
The building, next to the Wearmouth Bridge, was home to the Echo for more than 100 years up until 1976.


Compact broadsheet newspapers have made it into a top-ten list of products that have improved everyday life in the past 20 years.
The research was carried out for User Vision and asked 500 consumers to pick their five most useful products, with the new format broadsheets being named as among the most popular.


Television journalist Jon Snow has praised a terrorism news and information website as a “good organisation”, in the wake of the massive hunt for the four alleged London bombers from July 21.

The expansion at www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk was timed to coincide with the start of the Premiership football season.


A teenager spent a day shadowing a reporter at the Haverhill Echo as her prize in a charity auction in aid of Focus on Africa.
Rachel Ott, (15), said afterwards: “I enjoyed seeing how things are done and going to different places to find out how you interview people and put stories together.”
