New regionals' role for deputy Darren

Aberdeen Evening Express deputy editor Darren Thwaites is to leave the paper later this month to join Trinity Mirror.

Darren, (35), will join Trinity Mirror Regionals’ divisional team in Liverpool as an editorial development manager.

He will work alongside existing editorial development managers Brian Aitken and Jeremy Clifford, and be responsible for a variety of projects, including product development, content sharing and best practice.

Darren said: “I’ve spent six very enjoyable years in Aberdeen and will leave with fond memories.

“The Evening Express has been a real success story in that time and I’m delighted to have been part of it.

“I’m now looking forward to getting stuck into my new role – it’s an exciting move and a great opportunity.”

Darren has worked at the Evening Express for the past six years in a variety of roles, including sports editor, news editor, assistant editor and, most recently, deputy editor.

He began his journalism in 1989 as a reporter on the Express and Chronicle series in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, and also spent four years working on the Huddersfield Examiner as a news reporter and later as a sports writer/sub.
