New MD looks to the future

The new managing director of Westcountry Publications has spoken of his hopes for the future in his new role.

Duncan Currall joined the publishers of the Exeter Express & Echo, Plymouth Evening Herald, Torquay Herald Express and the Western Morning News, from South West Wales Publications.

He is facing his biggest challenge yet: in previous roles he was in charge of one centre, but at WCP he is responsible for three – Plymouth, Torquay and Exeter.

He said: “There is a lot to do here, but I have a lot of good people working with me and I am looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“It is a much bigger job simply because of the number of editions WCP put out.

“We have three evening newspapers and a morning one and the prime target I have set is to get newspaper sales up.

“There is a lot of potential here and I aim to make the most of it, there is a lot to be done but I feel I have the people to do it.”

Once Duncan is more settled, he will split his time between the three centres and he is looking forward to having his family join him.

He said: “At the moment I am commuting to Swansea each weekend as my family still lives there.

“Once the school year is over we will all move down here and settle in properly, I think we are going to be very happy in Plymouth.”
