New-look Packet series hits the streets

The Packet series in Cornwall will hit the streets with a fresh new look this Thursday.

The facelift, which has been in the pipeline for three months, will see a host of new features, a redesigned masthead and replacement typefaces.

  • The new masthead
  • Terry Lambert, who became group editor of the Packet series in March, said: “The redesign will bring the paper up to date. It will look completely different.

“We’ve communicated with readers far and wide about the changes and all our own staff have been putting in ideas.

“We’ve introduced a reunions column called ‘We’ll meet again’, a celebrity column called ‘My secrets revealed’ in which local dignitaries are invited to answer questions about their private lives and a weekly vox pop where we’ll ask local a local family for their opinions on something in the news.”

  • How the Packet used to look
  • There will also a new column written by local sixth formers and reports on police and ambulance calls will now be grouped together in a dedicated emergency services column.

Terry said: “All of the paper’s existing content will be maintained because we recognise how popular the paper already is with readers. The changes will add even more local news which will be presented in a bright and attractive new style.”

The Packet has four editions covering Falmouth, Helston, Truro and Camborne-Redruth and reaches more than 80,000 readers each week.

The Falmouth Packet was first published in 1855 as a broadsheet. It changed to a tabloid format in the 1970s around the same time the other three editions were launched.
