New-look Argus unveiled

The Argus in Brighton has been restyled to give it a sleeker and cleaner look that makes it easier to read.

The new look includes new fonts for both text, news headlines and features, as well as set left headlines and more white space. There is less bold type and fewer reverse headings.

There will be a new masthead next month but otherwise, the paper’s characteristically impact-driven design remains.

Editor Simon Bradshaw said: “The new masthead rebrands us as simply The Argus, as opposed to the Evening Argus, because that is what most people know us as.

“I still expect a few complaints from readers who won’t want to see the “evening” vanish after 121 years but the on the basis of the reaction I have had so far, I expect most people will take to the new look.”

Assistant editor Pat Lewis spent months working on the re-design which was begun with advice on typefaces from Peter Sands, from the Editorial Training Centre in Hastings, which is on the Argus’s patch.
