New Evening Post board member is appointed

Sir David White has been appointed to the editorial board of the Nottingham Evening Post. He succeeds the late Lord Boardman.

The board – which is separate from the management of the company – safeguards editorial independence.

It was established as a condition of the purchase of the Nottingham Post Group (formerly T Bailey Forman) in 1994 by the Daily Mail & General Trust, parent company of Northcliffe Newspapers.

Sir David, (73), who lives in Nottingham, has held a wide range of top business and public positions, including chairman of the Coal Authority, Mansfield Brewery, Nottingham Development Enterprise and the Board of Governors of Nottingham Trent University.

He said: “It is a privilege and a pleasure to be involved with the newspaper of my city.”

The editorial board comprises five members. Three – Sir David, Mr Roger Harrison and Sir Michael Bishop – are subject to the approval of the Trade and Industry Secretary. The other two are Northcliffe chief executive Kevin Beatty and former Northcliffe chairman Ian Park.

Evening Post editor Graham Glen said: “I am pleased by Sir David’s appointment. He is Nottingham through and through.

“The Evening Post is one of Nottingham’s institutions. Its independence is a hallmark and one of the newspaper’s key strengths.”
