New boss for Evening Telegraph

Former Leicester Mercury journalist Jeremy Clifford has taken over as editor at the Evening Telegraph in Kettering.

He fills the post left vacant by David Penman, who resigned in the summer after three years at the helm.

Jeremy, (pictured), has had a varied career in the regional press, and during two spells at the Leicester Mercury his roles included that of deputy editor and publishing manager.

He also worked for Trinity Mirror Regionals as editorial development manager, helping to develop the readership of the group’s titles through a range of editorial and marketing improvements.

The 40-year-old has also worked for the South Wales Echo, where he helped with the newspaper’s transition from broadsheet to tabloid, and the Derby Evening Telegraph – when for a time he was seconded to the UK News agency.

Prior to that he helped to set up the now-defunct Hull and Beverley Independent before launching his own freelance news agency called Independent Press Agency.

He began his career at the Hull Daily Mail in 1987.

  • The Evening Telegraph has a circulation of 27,105 (Mon-Fri, ABC Jan to June 2005), down 7.9 per cent year on year.
