New appointments at the Courier

A new team is poised to take the helm at the Tyrone Courier.

The weekly paper, part of the Alpha Newspaper Group, is getting a new editor and a new deputy.

Ian Greer will take over as editor following the retirement of Richard Montgomery.

Mr Greer previously worked with the Courier at its Dungannon offices before leaving for three years to work as assistant night editor at Mirror Group Newspapers in Belfast.

He said: “As a local journalist I am very much looking forward to taking up the position of editor and continuing the excellent work of my predecessors, Richard Montgomery and the late Ernie Richardson.”

The position of deputy editor will be taken by Peter Bayne who has worked as a senior journalist at the Courier since 1990.

He said: “The people of East Tyrone and Mid-Ulster deserve the best and each week the editorial team at the Tyrone Courier strive to keep them informed with the latest local news as it happens.

“I welcome my appointment and look forward to the Courier’s continued success.”
