Name a village – offer to readers

A Warrington Guardian reader is to name a new village in the area.

A £20m village has been developed on the Rylands recreation ground to provide a safe environment for old people and the Guardian has asked readers to name it.

The developers have so far been unable to find their own name and later this year, representatives from the newspaper will meet the developers to make a final decision.

Entry forms have been printed in the Guardian and readers can also submit their entries at the newspaper’s website www.thisiswarrington.co.uk.

The village has been built through a partnership between the council and a housing association and follows a similar project in Stoke-on-Trent, named Berryhill, after the area in which it was built.

Features specially-designed for the elderly include a village hall and shop, an internet lounge, hydrotherapy pools and a social club.

John Payne, whose firm is in the partnership, said: “This village will benefit Warrington’s elderly people and their families so it seems entirely appropriate that the name reflects local opinion.”

“We are delighted that the Guardian’s readers will be involved in making this historic decision.”
