Murder inquiry exclusive

In an exclusive interview with the South Wales Evening Post, the detective leading the hunt for the killer of an 80-year-old woman, her daughter and two granddaughters, spoke of his personal sorrow that the murderer had not yet been brought to justice.

Detective Superintendent Martyn Lloyd Evans said he was upset by recent criticism of the murder inquiry and urged people to pull together and support the investigation.

Mandy Power (34), her elderly mother Doris Dawson, and daughters Katie, (10) and eight-year-old Emily were murdered at their home last June.

The newspaper has reported local councillors’ calls for changes in the investigation team, but Mr Evans told the newspaper that 58 officers were working on the case round the clock.

“My officers have given a year of their lives to this investigation. Yes, they read the newspaper reports and are saddened but we are all determined to continue. We should all be working together to detect this case,” he said.

In its editorial, the Post backed Mr Evans and said: “We must salute the determination of the team to keep going – for as long as it takes.”
