Mother flees scene of horror

A woman who witnessed a horror-scene in her own home is being aided in her recovery by readers of her local newspaper.

Katura Ramsay, an 18-year-old mum, is the focus of an appeal by the Ipswich Evening Star which wants to raise £500 to help her get over the ordeal.

Last November, Katura was at home with her ten-month-old daughter when her partner, Peter McDougall, hanged himself in their loft following a series of arguments.

She is now preparing to start a new life at a different council house – and is expecting her second baby in the summer.

Katura said: “I am grateful for support. All the memories of Pete are there. I know I will take it with me in my head but there’s still a feeling, like homesickness.”

Despite needing the money herself, Katura is insisting that half of the cash raised by the Evening Star is donated to MIND – a charity specialising in mental health advice.

She explained: “I’d like to talk to MIND about my ideas. Men have a macho image that makes it hard to reach them.”
