More TV dates for Hale

You just can’t keep a good man down!

Just days after quitting his post at the Matlock Mercury and securing a new position at the Sunday Mercury, Don Hale been popping up on television again and is preparing the next stage of Stephen Downing’s court appeal.

His first front page exclusive for the Mercury “Out of this World” – about UFOs – featured on the discussion show Central Weekend Live and Don was called in to talk about it.

The second – about alleged poor treatment in custody of one of the Birmingham Six – attracted wide publicity after it appeared.

Don said his leaving do at the Matlock Mercury was emotional but that he had “no regrets”.

He said: “As soon as I left, I received two calls from national newspapers asking me to do some feature work and then Central TV asked me to appear live on their late-night programme and to talk about the UFO story.

“The next few weeks will be very busy and hopefully Stephen Downing’s appeal will be listed shortly and is expected to be heard within the next six weeks.”

Stephen Downing is the convicted murderer who has been released from prison on bail pending an appeal against his conviction.

Hale’s investigation and coverage of Downing’s fight for justice brought him to prominence.
