Mercury plea finds trio- fast!

An appeal to find three people who helped open the town’s multi-millionswimming complex ten years ago came up trumps within hours of being published in the Bridgwater Mercury.

Leisure boss Gary Evans turned to the Mercury for help in tracking down the three girls who carried out the opening ceremony at the Sedgemoor Splash a decade ago.

And he was amazed when all three of them responded just hours after the Mercury hit the news stands – even though one lives thousands of miles away in America.

After Gary launched the appeal in the Mercury, Tracey Armstrong who lives in Bridgwater, Kimberley Payne, from Bawdrip, and Lisa Armstrong, now living in Florida, contacted him.

Gary said: “It just goes to show the power of the press. We wanted tocontact the three girls to make them guest of honour at the pool’s tenthbirthday celebrations later this month and turned to the Mercury for help.

“I thought we might have our work cut out in tracing them but by 5pm the day the paper came out I had been contacted by all three people even though one of them lived in America!”

The trio have now been invited to be special guests at the tenth anniversary celebrations of the Splash later this month.
