Media group sees profits rise

Scottish Radio Holdings’ press division saw profits rise by an estimated eight per cent in the past six months.

According to the media group’s latest trading update, Score Press also increased advertising revenues for October to March by six per cent, compared with the same period last year.

The press division publishes 43 local weekly newspapers in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, including the Galloway Gazette, Stornoway Gazette, Ballymena Times, Ballymoney Times and Portadown Times.

As a whole, circulation revenues for the division are estimated to be up seven per cent, with other income – mainly from printing contracts – up 16 per cent.

Scottish Radio Holdings also has a wide interest in commercial radio, with 24 wholly and partly-owned radio services and five digital radio multiplexes, and expects profits for this division to be up 18 per cent, boosted by acquisitions.

Revenues for the whole group are estimated to be up 14 per cent.

Announcing its latest figures, the group said that it was too early to forecast how the full year would turn out but, following an encouraging first six months, it looked forward to a satisfactory result for the group overall.
