Media expert appointed to Press Complaints Commission

The Press Complaints Commission has announced the appointment of Eve Salomon as a new lay member.

Eve, a solicitor who has held senior positions at the Radio Authority and the Independent Television Commission, as well as having been the interim Board Secretary at Ofcom, was appointed following a recruitment process which attracted over 1,000 applications.

Chairman Sir Christopher Mayer said: “I am delighted that Eve will be joining us as the tenth public member of the Commission.

“She brings a wealth of experience and expertise, particularly in the field of media regulation, to the post.

“Her appointment – the first under the new open recruitment procedures – will increase the majority of lay members over editors on the Commission, and therefore buttress the Commission’s independence from the industry that it is regulating”.

Eve said: “The PCC has a vital job to do in balancing the defence of freedom of speech on the one hand with the protection of the individual’s rights on the other. I am delighted to have this opportunity to help strike that balance.”
