Former South Wales Evening Post journalist Michael Boon received his MBE from the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace.

Mr Boon, who recently retired as specialist writer and Westgate columnnist with the Western Mail, was honoured for services to journalism in Wales.

He began his journalism career with the Llanelli Star and worked for the South Wales Evening Post before spending seven years with the Press Association in Fleet Street.

Mr Boon covered Wales for the Sunday Express for 23 years and helped launch Wales on Sunday before spending the last 10 years of his career with the Western Mail.
