Marketing man on the move

The marketing director of the Newspaper Society is to leave to take up a new post advising firms how to maximise advertising revenue.

Chris Stanley will leave in June to become managing director of the UK division of MatchWork.

He leaves the NS after almost six years, during which time he has pioneered new ventures to make it easier for national advertisers to use the regional press, and overseen the establishment of a strong, collective marketing force for the regional press.

Newspaper Society director David Newell said: “I wish Chris every success in the future. He has contributed enormously to the Newspaper Society’s overall reputation since he joined us in 1995.

“He has led NS Marketing with professionalism and vision, and has built up an excellent, award-winning team around him.

“His successor, when appointed, will take over an industry marketing operation with an enviable reputation and a true sense of purpose.”

Chris himself confesses to mixed feelings about leaving the NS. “I have put heart and soul into building a marketing unit to support a brilliant industry. It is hard to leave such a good team that is making a real difference, but the excitement of the new challenge was irresistible.”

The 25-strong team at NS Marketing provides a broad range of support services to regional newspaper publishers and the central promotional activity for the UK regional press in the national advertising market.

Chris’s new company, MatchWork, is expanding rapidly across Europe and helps media owners generate more revenue from the recruitment advertising market.
