Paul Horrocks, editor of the Manchester Evening News, has been elected to theSociety of Editors’ board of directors for a three-year term.
He replaces Geoff Elliott who has finished his term as immediate pastpresident.
Mr Horrocks (46) has been editor of the MEN since June 1997 and he is alsoeditor-in-chief of Manchester Metro News.
He joined the paper in 1975 as a general news reporter and in 1984 wasappointed crime correspondent, covering the Stalker affair and there-opening of the Moors Murder case.
He went on to become news editor in 1989, assistant editor in 1994 anddeputy editor in 1996.
He is a member of the organising committee for the Commonwealth Games whichwill take place in Manchester in 2002. He is vice president of the CommunityFoundation for Greater Manchester and a patron of Francis House Children’sHospice.
He is married with three children and enjoys golf,sailing and rugby union.
