Manchester business paper and website set for Monday launch

The first edition of Crain’s Manchester Business is due out on Monday.

The 32-page newspaper will go out to around 15,000 business owners, senior executives, professionals and financiers with a further 3,000 copies on newsstands at £2.

A further two editions will be published in January before switching to weekly print runs permanently from February.

Crain’s says it sees Greater Manchester as an ideal place to launch in the UK as it has a thriving and entrepreneurial business scene.

Editor Steve Brauner, is the former editor of the North West Evening Mail and the North West Business Insider, and comes from Manchester. He has also been business editor and assistant editor of the Liverpool Daily Post.

He said that there had been an overwhelmingly positive response from the business community ahead of the launch.

In addition to the newspaper, the website crainsmanchesterbusiness.co.uk will feature daily news updates after going live, also on Monday.

In october Crain’s Manchester Business produced a 24-page prototype issue to give readers and advertisers an idea of the style and content of the new publication.

American owners Crain Communications Inc already operate similar city-based business titles in Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit and New York as well as 25 trade publications.

They believe their new Manchester edition is the first business weekly ever launched in western Europe.

Crain’s has only one city business title outside its US base – in Mexico City.
