Make 'em laugh

The runaway success of a talent contest run by the Hull Daily Mail has led to plans for an even bigger contest in 2001.

Assistant editor Marc Astley has taken over the organisation of Talent Trail from former community and campaigns editor Stan Szecowka – who’s moved on to Bristol.

He’s pledged that everyone who takes part next year will have their photo taken and get a review of their act in the Mail.

Marc said: “It’s always difficult to improve on previous years but with the help of a lot of people we have pulled it off once again.

“The top prize value has doubled and we are also offering the winner something money cannot buy – the chance to appear live on TV.”

As well as the appearance on Granada TV, the winner will get £1,500 and three eight-hour sessions at a recording studio, worth some £1,200.

The contest is open to amateurs and semi-professionals who can sing, dance, juggle or make people laugh.
