Reporter Lucy Ferguson shed any stage fright to take part in what’s been dubbed – by her subs – the “cookery challenge of the year” as she stepped up to take part in the Ideal Home Exhibition.

The Bournmouth Daily Echo hack squared up opposite another “competitor” as expert Sue Robinson took the pair through a few basic microwave paces.

Lucy, who admits to being no Delia Smith, told readers in her story afterwards: “My pilau rice was a success, and the chocolate orange cake certainly seemed to go down well with the audience, who were given a chance to sample our handiwork after the hour-long demonstration.”

The microwave miracles show was just one of many held throughout the four-day exhibition, now in its fifth year at Bournemouth.

Some 20,000 people attended this year.
