Lord Falconer joins editors' conference line-up

Lord Falconer, Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs and Lord Chancellor, is to be a key speaker at the Society of Editors’ conference next month.

The event in Glasgow is expected to be attended by around 400 guests, and also added to the line-up is Nathan Stoll, product manager of Google News, who will take part in a session examining how the media might look in 2020.

The theme of this year’s conference is The Next Generation and, following on from last year’s theme Whatever Next?, will take the debate a step further, looking at how the pace of growth, transformation and variety in the delivery of news throws up both problems and opportunities.

It will explore what the next generation of the media will look like in terms of print, broadcast and digital delivery, as well as who the next generation of journalists will be – and what skills they will need.

Other speakers will include publisher and broadcaster Andrew Neil, who will deliver the Society of Editors’ Lecture, and BBC director general Mark Thompson who will give a keynote speech.

Double Olympic gold medallist and chairman of London 2012 Sebastian Coe, is to be the main after dinner speaker at the conference’s gala dinner.

Based at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Glagow, the conference runs from Sunday, November 5 to Tuesday, November 7.
